Do I already have to be 'in shape' to participate?
Not at all! We have people from 5 to 50+, people at the beginning of there fitness journey to veteran triathletes. You do need to be able to ride a bike, mount and dismount a canoe, and be able to walk at least 3 miles. And of course, always consult your doctor before beginning any fitness plan or participating in any strenuous activity.
Do I need to know how to use a compass?
No. Beginner races are typically easily to complete by just following the trails. Beyond that Adventure Racing is a team sport so if you are not a navigator, just make sure you have one on your team.
Do I need to know how to swim?
No. Adventure Races require that participants wear a life vest before starting any paddling portions of the course.
What type of equipment/gear do I need?
A Mountain bike and a bike helmet are all you need to get started. Individual course requirments vary but typically include things like a water bottle, a bike pump and other items you may already have.
Why do some events have a point value?
Full members of WDQ Adventure Racing Club participate in a point system to track their individual progress towards preparing for different catagories of Adventure Races.
How do I become a full member?
You can become a full member of WDQ Adventure Racing Club by filling out the Racer Agreement form and paying the annual dues. Contact us for more details.
